Lisa DiCarlo: Clinic Coordinator
My work with Health Care is a Human Right (HCHR), the communities we serve, and our practitioners, is not only a delight, it aligns perfectly with my belief that health care truly is a human right. Comprehensive holistic health care is essential and should be available to everyone, rather than a luxury reserved for those of greater means.
A long-time friend, human rights advocate and mentor, Peter Blum, had piqued my interest in Health Care is a Human Right as a concept, as well as an organization, in its early years. In May 2024, I received a call out of the blue from Peter asking if I was available and interested in offering blood pressure screenings and wellness education at our clinics. The timing was perfect. I was available and overjoyed to have the opportunity to be part of this beautiful and much needed organization. My work as a wellness nurse quickly morphed into a position as Kingston clinic director and in December of 2025, I accepted the position of Coordinator while continuing my role as director of our Kingston clinics. I also serve as a nurse and Reiki practitioner as needed.
With a foundation in critical care, holistic health, patient advocacy, community health, palliative care, and cross-cultural competencies, I hope to bring both technical skill and compassionate presence to those I serve. Nursing is a career that encompasses lifelong learning and opportunities to explore and develop proficiency in a myriad of specialties. Weaving together technical skill, humanism, and compassion to bring forth utmost healing is a common thread.
In 1995 I graduated as a Registered Nurse from SUNY Ulster, and in 2015 was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from SUNY Empire State College. In 2007, after completing an 18-month internship, I became a certified Reiki Master Teacher, first in Usui, and later Karuna® Reiki. During my tenure at Good Samaritan Hospital, I co-created the Holistic Nursing Department making Reiki, aromatherapy, and music therapy available to all patients. I helped shape policy and educate staff. These additions helped instill feelings of calm, fostered a measurable reduction in anxiety, pain, and depression, and sped patient healing. Integrating these complementary healing modalities with traditional medicine and nursing lead to increased patient satisfaction overall. In addition to the aforementioned modalities I hold certifications in Palliative Care, Craniosacral Therapy, Hypnotherapy, and Neuro Linguistic Programming.
As a lifelong learner with an adventurous spirit, humanitarian and staunch advocate, I hope do what I can to alleviate suffering, promote healing, and help create a better world for all. During my time away from HCHR, I may be found exploring different places and cultures, hiking, attending music festivals, dancing like no one is watching, and whenever possible, spending time with my beloved family and friends.
I’d love to hear from you and I’m happy to answer your wellness questions to the best of my ability. Blood pressure screenings remain available per request. At HCHR, we welcome dialogue and strive to enhance health and improve well-being for all.
Be Well,
Lisa
